What makes your brand sustainable?
Scrapping ‘Ell only uses what already exists. Each handmade item is made exclusively from secondhand, vintage, or discarded textiles which keeps quality materials out of landfills. A zero waste approach is also used; smaller fabric scraps are reworked into accessories like tote bags and scrunchies, and all orders are shipped in recyclable packaging.
How are the garments made?
Every single handmade piece is designed, pattern drafted, cut, and sewn by Ellie in her South London studio. Ellie does everything herself from sourcing the vintage fabrics to stitching down the final button and handwriting you a thank you note.
What is the signature Scrapping 'Ell style?
Ellie makes one-of-a-kind pieces with a focus on jackets, tops and shirts made in graphic stripes, checks, and are designed with zero fuss or traditional florals. The designs are intended to be elevated, statement pieces that you can wear with your favorite pair of jeans, and your outfit is made.
Why are many ready made pieces a UK 10 or 12? How can I get my size?
Working with finite lengths or pieces of vintage textiles means the amount of fabric available often dictates the garment size. To make pieces adaptable to a range of sizes, most of the jackets and tops are made in oversized, or boxy cuts that fit a range of body shapes.
Can I request a custom design or made-to-order piece?
If you need a specific fit or different size you can head to the made to order page or send your custom measurements to scrapping.ell@gmail.com and we can discuss custom sizing.
Vintage Sizing vs. Modern Sizing
Sizes from the 80s and 90s are usually larger than modern sizing. To make shopping easy, the modern UK equivalent size is listed in the main title and you will find exact measurements in the product description.
Where do you source your vintage fabrics and pre-loved garments?
Ellie hand selects all materials and vintage garments locally across London and the UK at car boot sales, online auctions and house clearance specialists, sourcing unused textiles, vintage tablecloths, pre-loved curtains, and discarded woven fabrics. Using authentic vintage textiles, quantities are limited which makes most designs one-of-a-kind.
Where do you ship, and how long does order dispatch take?
Ellie ships worldwide from London. Ready made and curated vintage pieces are dispatched within 2 business days via 48 tracked with Royal Mail. For made to order items, please allow 1–2 weeks for your garment to be made and dispatched. All orders are sent in 100% recyclable packaging with faster tracked delivery options available at checkout.
Returns & Exchanges
Returns are accepted on ready made garments and curated vintage items within 14 days of delivery, provided they are in their original, unworn condition. Please note that garments of a custom nature are non refundable unless faulty. Please email scrapping.ell@gmail.com with your order number if you wish to make a return. As a small business, exchanges are encouraged if possible.
How should I care for my handmade clothing?
Because vintage fabrics vary in weave and composition, gentle care is always best. Machine wash on a 30°C cycle with eco friendly detergent. Handwash wool or silk gently. Avoid tumble drying to preserve the vintage fibers and seams. Wash only when necessary to extend their life and reduce water use.
